Bloody Friday
Today, my group received news from a major insurer that our reimbursement rates were going to be drastically cut, to a fraction of Medicare. Since Medicare will not pay more than what we accept from other places, we will soon have to cut their rates I am sure. Our profit margins, for those of you in business who would know, will take a greater cut, since our costs only rise and do not get cut in a similar fashion. Our group will have to reduce our workforce, and do more work to keep the... Bloody Friday (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PCP visits declined 18 percent over 4 years
Unfortunately not looking good for primary care bound physicians in the current environment where instant gratification culture has led to the proliferation of urgent care and minute clinics that cost the same up front to the patient. The Disappearing Doctor: How Mega-Mergers Are Changing the Business of Medical Care Big corporations — giant retailers and health insurance companies — are teaming up to become your doctor. www.nytimes.com Excerpt: "CVS [...], and most recent...

Surprise Billing Legislation in House of Representatives
We have some serious legislation that is pending that will have a large impact on surprise billing. Emergency physicians will likely see a significant cut in their pay -- as much as 50% -- if legislation passes with intended financial goals. The purpose of the legislation is straight forward. Nobody wants patients hit with huge out-of-network bills that insurers -- who are contracted to cover their members -- do not pay. A provider may not be in-network because of an insurance company's... Surprise Billing Legislation in House of Representatives (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Derm Compensation ($)
Hi guys, I understand that dermatology is a competitive specialty due to lifestyle/compensation, however I don't really understand the way dermatologists are compensated in private practice. Do dermatologists make more because they do more procedures, do insurance companies reimburse them more, or are their starting salary just higher than other specialties? What about dermatologists who only see patients and perform no procedures? Just curious and hoping you guys could provide me some... Derm Compensation ($) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Independent pharmacy audits
Just moved from CVS to an independent. Had a quick question for those who have independent pharmacy experiences. When working at CVS, I never had to deal with audits from insurance companies but I am told that it is normal for independent to be audited by insurances. Apparently, big companies like CVS have their own department to deal with audits? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pharmacies doing prior authorizations
Something the owner of my pharmacy is adamant about is not doing prior authorizations for doctors. We can fill out some information should we have the information but he is very serious about not faxing anything to the insurance companies from our fax machine or forging information on the prior authorization forms. If a doctor's office wants us to fill out the demographic information on the prior authorization forms, we will and then fax it to the doctor's office to complete the clinical... MD/JD Programs
I am looking to start school in order to obtain my MD/JD. I am passionate about becoming a psychiatrist (MD), and opening my own psychiatric institution. I feel like my JD would assist greatly with that, and even with working with insurance companies, etc. What are your thoughts? Do you think there is an easier way to go about that without having to obtain my JD? I'm thinking the JD is going to be more beneficial more for the knowledge that I would be obtaining, rather than the fact that I... MD/JD Programs (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CVS losing business
For CVS pharmacists that have stores near Walgreens, have you experienced a huge drop in business after the first of the year. I really can't explain why. I heard while CVS is spending billions buying out public companies....Walgreens has strategically made deals with private insurers and has had a surge in business. I've been with CVS for 15 years and have never experienced such a drop in business. This explains why alot of the supervisors and DMs were let go last month and why CVS... Moving to Boston, stay with Walgreen or take a new job?
I am in CA, working at Walgreens for 5 years, just got an offer for an MTM Rph position at a major insurance company (still doing background check, hasn’t told Walgreens yet). My husband yesterday got an offer (non health care related) at Boston and he will take it, and move there first. Our plan is to move to Boston in summer, before schools start. Should I stay with Walgreens and transfer to Boston district? Or take the MTM job then look for new job later? My dilemma is that I don’t know... Moonlighting for FM residents? where to look?
I've been looking for Moonlighting opportunities without much success. I'm a 3rd year FM resident. I have an independent license in PA, my own DEA license with Buprenorphine waiver, but am having no luck. Local Urgent cares want board eligible residency grads. or full time. Local suboxone clinics that have offered moonlighting opportunities are having trouble credentialling me, as the insurance companies won't reimburse for non-graduate, non-board eligible physicians... Local ER's that... Moonlighting for FM residents? where to look? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Credentialing without finishing Residency
Greetings! I am a first year resident, 6 months in, and contemplating finishing my first year, which qualifies me for licensure in my state, and leaving to practice on my own. My program director is absolutely malignant and i am not interested in having a surgical practice. I cant see myself being able to tolerate this toxic environment throughout the duration. I am curious about credentialing with insurance companies in my private practice without completion or am i going to... Credentialing without finishing Residency (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MSW vs OT vs Mental health nursing
Are OTs and mental health nurses gaining favour as providers of clinical mental health care among employers/insurers, over the others? Job ads suggest this is true. I know that historically, there's been fierce competition in the broader mental health arena (psychologists wanting prescribing rights; MSWs wanting assessment responsibilities; OTs seeking a masters-level minimum for registration; insurers wanting whoever's cheapest and legal). Have read that while social workers enjoy a... MSW vs OT vs Mental health nursing (Source: Student Doctor Network)
