Liklihood of RFA working after positive MBB
Just asking what you typically tell patients regarding efficacy or likelihood of improvement of RFL after they have had a positive MBB (or two). 80%? 90%? I personally have been doing just one MBB, most of patients are manual labor/industry guys with low back pain and have a hard time getting out of work for multiple appointments, and most insurers in my area only require 1 MBB. Just wondering if you have a certain speil regarding likelihood of RFA working in the lumbar spine after a + diag... Liklihood of RFA working after positive MBB (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Virtual Pharmacy
I have read articles that mention virtual pharmacist counseling jobs and telepharmacy, and I have heard people say they know a friend of a friend who does it, but I can't find any actual companies hiring for it. I know that hospital remote order entry technically falls into this category, but that's not what I'm talking about. I am referring to these mystical unicorn jobs that insurance companies, and mail order companies, and some other collaborative arrangements are suppose to be offering.... I really love clinic
Hi. I'm currently a 3rd year and am in the middle of surgery. I have found that I really enjoy clinic and don't like being in the OR at all. Also, inpatient care is not very appealing to me. I have had my heart set on FM for a while because I really like the idea of primary care, of helping patients manage their chronic illnesses, consulting with different subspecialties, and fighting with insurance companies. However, I am starting to also consider IM. I have read some threads on the... I really love clinic (Source: Student Doctor Network)

If an office wants to hire an anesthesiologist to do moderate-deep sedation for minor procedures below the neck: 1. what kind of regulatory requirements does the office have to satisfy before they can hire anesthesiologist to do this? 2. how should the anesthesiologist go about billing - by 15min increments? by case? how do they choose how much to charge? a. if procedures covered by insurance b. if procedures entirely "fee for service" (out of pocket - no insurance company... regulatory, billing, drugs for doing sedation for an office (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dental insurance & invisalign
Couldn't find much help through google. I want to get invisalign because my teeth are just meh and I'd like to have better teeth. However, I have Molina and it doesn't cover it. I'm thinking about buying dental insurance just so I can afford the treatment. How long do I have to wait before doing the treatment once I buy insurance? I'm sure there has to be some kind of latent period so people don't abuse insurance companies by buying them before a treatment and dropping them after. Also, I... Epidural Reimbursement question
So I got a question for everyone. I'm starting practice fresh outta fellowship, so little new to the area of billing and collections. Say I think someone is a candidate for bilateral L4 and L5 transforaminal ESI. Does that get paid if you bill that? Or is there some limit to how many epidurals you do before insurers stop paying it? What about Medicare/Medicaid specifically as that's what I'll likely be seeing most. We didn't do 4 regions in fellowship hardly ever, though not sure if it... Disability insurance
Seems like all attendings have anesthesia specific disability insurance. I know it is highly recommended to get one. But I dont know anyone who had to use it, or what conditions qualify activation of disability insurance. Does anyone know of anyone who had to use it and what was their situation? It is extremely costly, and i imagine insurance companies will try everything they can to deny you the money since it will be a lot of money for the insurance company since anesthesiologists make... Is it permissable to run "test claims" in retail pharmacy?
Sometimes patients will call and ask us what a medication costs though their insurance. However, they don't have a prescription on file. Is it permissible to run a fake rx through to see what their copay is, then reverse it? I've had another pharmacist say that the insurance companies don't like it when we do test claims with out an actual prescription on file. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

why would anyone with a brain go into Primary Care?
So, i have been contemplating Family practice or primary care for a while, but after shadowing a solo DO today, at her family practice. I don't see how it;s a viable choice, i mean we went over the financial side of the equation, she stated having trouble making ends meet. Thus will be switching to a direct primary care model, under-which no insurance company will be involved!! At the end of the day, i couldn't help it but connect the dot between dying podiatry practice and family care. I... why would anyone with a brain go into Primary Care? Disability insurance, malpractice insurance, anything I am missing?
Out in the real world, I want to make sure that I have all my bases covered. I don't want to be over insured, but I also want to make sure to have all my bases covered. Talking to insurance companies, they want to sell you everything. Did any of you guys get disability insurance? I am not a surgeon, but you never know what could happen? Have any of you had to use your disability insurance? Any pearls of experience that might be helpful for anyone reading this forum? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
