Start a novel insurance company...?
As an attending physician in private practice, I've become increasingly frustrated with the ridiculous third party payer system in the United States. It's bloated, illogical, horrendously inefficient, and provides ZERO value to patients or physicians. Insurance companies are getting rich off the back of doctors and patients, all of whom absolutely despise insurance companies. Deductibles are going through the roof. Premiums for patients keep going up. Denials for care keep rising.... Start a novel insurance company...? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

In case anyone missed this...
How-government-killed-medical-profession http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/how-government-killed-medical-profession <<In 2011, The New England Journal of Medicine reported that fully 50 percent of the nation’s doctors had become employees—either of hospitals, corporations, insurance companies, or the government. Just six years earlier, in 2005, more than two-thirds of doctors were in private practice. As economic pressures on the sustainability of private... In case anyone missed this... private practice, out of network insurance issues
Ahoy, I've been doing private practice for a bit, providing superbills to patients so they can submit them to their insurance companies for reimbursement. Now, a couple months later I am receiving a letter from Blue shield of CA in regards to a claim submitted by one of my patients saying I need to "update my credentials." When I call them up, they say it's a new policy that I have to fill out a provider enrollment form for patient claims to be processed, along with copies of DEA, med... private practice, out of network insurance issues (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Please help! Blogger attacks doctors & nurses.
by CaribMD (Posted Sun Mar 20, 2016 5:32 pm)Many people are so full of themselves its unbelievable. That so called expert has failed to do his homework, insurance companies are the cause for the high cost of healthcare, denying claims for no reason, slow to pay claims, requiring documentation that is so complicated at times that care is delayed and patients health is put at risk, requiring Prior Authorization for needed treatments and procedures that would prevent further costly care. Does it cost more to provide singular and prevent Asthma attacks daily or to hospitalize a person with status asthmaticus in the ICU for a w...

Test For The "Normal' CFTR Gene?
For quite a while I had been wondering why genetic testing for CF did not involve looking for the known “normal” CFTR gene instead of looking for one of the many known mutations. This seems like it should be much simpler. It should also have the benefit of not missing a diagnosis because a patient’s mutation(s) had not been identified yet. I was going to pose the question here, thinking someone like LittleLab4CF might have the answer. Instead I asked the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and this was their reply: Hi ---, Thank you for your message and for including some information about yourself. We apologize f...

The Council of Dads
I guess, remembering my dad, Jack Burke is a really important memory for me...especially here as I know I got the gift of computers and programming from him. He was an original, a Senior Method Analyst at Prudential Insurance Company back in the 1950s! I grew up with technology and am always amazed at the gift it is especially to this CF community. Dad is smiling as we learn new ways to use technology and any way that it has helped this community. His aunt Kate may always know something, I'll find out in heaven...as she died from a "very bad cough" in the 1930s...which always leaves me to wonder. I love Bruce...
