Bard escapes hernia mesh lawsuit
Becton Dickinson & Co.‘s (NYSE:BDX) C.R. Bard (NYSE:BCR) and subsidiary Davol this week avoided a lawsuit over allegedly defective hernia meshes after an appellate panel reaffirmed a lower court’s dismissal.
The lower court had dismissed the suit on the grounds that the operating physician in the case was informed of risks associated with the mesh, eliminating the plaintiff’s argument that the company did not appropriately warn physicians on the issue.

New Zealand ’ s Medsafe regulatory body removes pelvic mesh products from market
New Zealand’s regulatory body Medsafe has taken steps to remove a number of surgical mesh products from the country, according to a release posted today.
The agency said the product’s removal was the outcome of a recent regulatory action on surgical mesh products, specifically those designed for treating pelvic organ prolapse via transvaginal implantation and one mini-sling product designed to treat stress urinary incontinence.

Pacira to invest up to $25m in surgical reconstruction company
Pacira Pharmaceuticals (NSDQ:PCRX) plans to invest up to $25 million in privately-held surgical reconstruction company Tela Bio, the company said today.
Pennsylvania-based Tela Bio has a portfolio of reinforced bioscaffold products, called OviTex, which combine biologic and synthetic materials in an embroidered implant that allows fluid and cells to move freely through the device. The implants are designed for ventral hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction.
