My Endometriosis Hell – Dawn ’ s Hysterectomy Story
Hi. I am 45 years old, suffered dreadful periods since I was a teenager, heavy bleeding migraines, severe pain. Kept going backwards and forwards to my GP, no avail….. I fell pregnant at 22, had an OK pregnancy, not long after giving birth the symptoms all came back. Within 2 years I was trying for a 2nd child but nothing happened. Cutting-edge microscopy reveals how neuron 'claws' in the brain enable flies to distinguish one scent from another
Think of the smell of an orange, a lemon, and a grapefruit. Each has strong acidic notes mixed with sweetness. And yet each fresh, bright scent is distinguishable from its relatives. These fruits smell similar because they share many chemical compounds. How, then does the brain tell them apart? How does the brain remember a complex and often overlapping chemical signature as a particular scent? Researchers at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) are using the fruit fly to discover how the brain integrates multiple signals to identify one unique smell... Citrus fruits may prevent kidney cysts
Scientists have discovered that a component found in grapefruit and other citrus fruits may successfully block the development of kidney cysts, according to a study published in the British Journal of Pharmacology. Researchers from the Royal Holloway University, St. George's, the University of London and Kingston University London in the UK, say that the component, called naringenin, could be used to develop new drugs for the treatment of polycystic kidney disease. It is an inherited disorder that causes cysts to develop in the kidneys... (Source: Health News from Medical News Today)

Fruit may lower diabetes risk while juice may raise it
Conclusion This study found that eating more of some whole fruits was associated with a reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes, but eating other fruits was not. It also found that drinking more fruit juice was associated with an increase in risk. The study has a range of strengths, including: its large size (almost 190,000 participants) long follow-up (more than 3,000,000 years in total across all participants) collecting data prospectively assessing diet at a number of time points, not just once taking into account a range of potential confounders There are also some limitations, including t...

Healthy eating can protect eyesight
When it comes to protecting your vision, what you eat may affect what you see, reports the August 2013 Harvard Health Letter. Vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients found in food play a role in preventing two common causes of vision problems: cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Cataracts are cloudy areas in the lens of the eye, while macular degeneration is a deterioration of the macula, the part of the eye that controls central vision. "While there is no definite proof, some studies suggest that eating a diet rich in certain nutrients may help," says Dr. Ivana Kim, associate professor of ophthalmology at Harv...

Nitrate Contaminated Water and Birth Defects
Agricultural processes use potassium nitrate as a virtually chloride-free and water-soluble source of nitrate-nitrogen and potassium nutrients. Potassium nitrate has specific benefits and characteristics and because of this target markets are related to high value crops including fruits, vegetables and flowers. Chloride sensitive crops such as strawberries, cabbage, potatoes, beans, peanuts, lettuce, onions, carrots, apricots, blackberries, grapefruit, tobacco, and avocados depend on the use of chloride-free K sources like potassium nitrate. While the use of potassium nitrate might sound very beneficial, it is having some ...
