abcess antibiotics
Hello, just wondering if anyone has treated an abscess with just antibiotics. It seems like that the general practice is to do I/D +/- antibiotics. Also, what are some common antibiotics that have good abscess penetration? I'm guessing that the antibiotic you're using would be even more tailored to the type of abscess you're treating (ex. GI vs. superficial), right? Thanks everyone in advance. Edit: I/D or percutaneous drainage under guidance. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Texas Dental Schools OOS
Hello SDN, What is your take on applying OOS to dental schools in Texas? I am thinking about applying to UThealth Houston and San Antonio. I have heard that their dental schools are great, and I have noticed that they are very cheap also. I am thinking about practicing as a general dentist in Texas one day as well. - I am from the Midwest (Appalachian area) - 4.0 GPA, biology major and chem minor - 21/20/20 DAT - My brother will be doing a general practice residency in Texas next year, and... Who wants to be a general practitioner?
Do all vet students want to become board certified, or are there some who actually want to be GPs? Lately I've been getting the feeling that general practice has a bad rep and isn't anything that anyone should aspire to do. That anyone who has any interest in having an enjoyable, meaningful, and financially stable career must desire to be a specialist -- not that everyone will try or everyone will gain board certification, but that not wanting to go there is somehow "less" or only for... DVM or PhD in animal science?
Hi everyone, I am currently an undergraduate biology student struggling to decide between continuing my education in veterinary school or in a graduate program in the animal sciences. I have experience working for a veterinarian as well as working in a microbiology research lab. If I were to go for a DVM, I would definitely want to specialize (either nutrition or sports medicine and physical therapy) since working in a general practice does not seem to be for me. I am somewhat skeptical of... DVM or PhD in animal science? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is pedo right for me?
The deadline for match submit is next week and I'm not sure if pedo is right for me. I could use any advice from current residents or practicing pediatric dentists. Did you ever doubt it was a right move for you or were you always 100% into it? A year ago I was so into it, but after going through the interviewing process, my heart was not so much in it. General practice isn't the best at times but since my gut isn't screaming go into pedo, I'm afraid I'll hate it. What should I do?? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
