Building up private practice
So I am 5 months into private practice. I'm billing about $900 worth of expenses a day, a combination of intakes and follow-ups. A little TMS stuff too. So, any advice on how I can get more referrals without coming off like some sort of cheesy telemarketer? I was thinking of approaching some therapy clinics and some private family practices letting them know that I am around and giving my cards if they'd like to refer some patients for med management. One of the prescribers at my practice... Building up private practice (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pediatricians moonlighing?
I currently work in the ER at a small rural hospital and many of the family practice physicians pick up a 3-4 shifts in the ER monthly. Has anyone heard of Pediatricians doing this? Or is their scope too specific? Although I'm not a medical student yet, I'm just curious as I'm very interested in Pediatrics but think I would miss the acute nature of ER. DO letter of recommendation
I shadowed a family practice DO last year who recently moved across the country. He agreed to write me a letter before he left; however, I have a feeling this letter is going to fall through. I scribe for a DO in the ER and know they would write me a LOR; however, will a letter from the family practice DO that I shadowed carry more weight than one from the ER DO I work with? Physicians in the Pharmaceutical Industry
The following is taken from several PMs that I've sent out to people who have asked for some details on how I got into pharma. Here is my background briefly: MD at a well respected state school, 2 yrs Gen surgery residency followed by 3 yrs Family Practice. Have now been working in pharma for the last 6 years. The pharma world for MDs is sharply divided into two camps: 1) Business 2) Research & Development (R&D). The business camp is devoted to the commercialization, marketing and sales... Scribing hours for shadowing?
So, I've been on these forums on and off for the past 2 years with the intention of applying to DO school. I'm pretty much only going to be applying to DO. I'm still putting it off until next cycle, but just wanted to get some advice. I've shadowed a few MD physicians prior to my scribe work. I've been scribing for about 8 months now, originally for 2 MD physicians (specialty) for about 4 months, and I now scribe full-time for a DO (family practice). By the time I apply I'll have nearly... Scribing hours for shadowing? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Schools that are known for good surgical matches?
Hello! I've been thinking about whether or not I will go the MD or DO route and I have pretty much decided that I want to go DO for multiple reasons. However, my future interests are in surgery mostly and I know that DO programs are generally more well known for family practice. Which DO schools are known for having good surgery matches? I don't think it helps to know but I'm a MA resident. Thanks so much! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Will weekly phone mentorship count?
So I sent requests to a dozen DO physicians in my area and only one accepted me for mentorship. He is a Family Practice physician that works as a visiting physician for patients at their homes in the attempt to reduce ER visits and travels with a medical assistant. We talk on the phone for 30+ mins a week and I shoot emails as well. He said we may do a face-to-face meeting, but he is also an hour away and our conversations take place while he waits for the medical assistant at a starbucks.... Will weekly phone mentorship count? Primary Care for Women - Family Practice VS OB/Gyn
I am torn between two specialties and am hoping for some advice. Originally I thought I'd go into family medicine because I like the idea of preventive care and taking care of people throughout their lifetime. I want a career where I form relationships with my patients, not just see them for a visit or two. Then I did my ob/gyn rotation and loved it. The rotation was at a community site, so I worked one-on-one with the doctors and my days were structured like theirs - surgery first thing in...
