Atsu-soma vs uiwsom
Hi Please help me decide! I’m currently leaning towards ATSU-Soma since it is more established a closer. But I’ve heard mixed things from both schools ATSU-SOMA ($67,000) Pros -Closer to home -More established with a high match rate -really good for family practice (I’m hoping to go into peds) -holo lens anatomy Cons -switching to 2-2 from 1-3 (transition period) so the curriculum can be considered unstable and rotation clinics can be sparse -rotation clinics are all over the country and... EM to family med?
I need to get out of the ED. I hate it. I’m tired of being treated like a piece of **** by administration, other doctors, patients and society in general. Anyone know anyone or any ways to go into family medicine, specifically outpatient clinic. I do not want to do family medicine residency. The way I see it, if family docs can moonlight in our EDs why can’t I start doing that in a family practice clinic. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Looking for periodontist for office in Natick MA
My office in Natick MA is looking for a periodontist to join our practice one to two days per month. We are a general family practice and currently have a periodontist but she is leaving the state. Looking to fill the position in Feb/March of next year. Any suggestions on where I can post other than here? Indeed has not been helpful. In general, how much weight does a school's specialty focus hold?
I was accepted into two schools - ATSU SOMA and Touro Nevada. ATSU SOMA emphasized family practice and seems to place mainly family practice doctors. More than Touro. Family practice is not what I want to do. Here's the question - how much weight does a school's specialty preference matter to residency programs, not accounting for the school's selectivity in admissions, academic rigor, prestige, and average student stats. In other words, do residency boards knock off points if a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is Med School Worth It?
Hi All i was hoping to talk with a few current Med students and/or current residents. Long story short I’m an older non trad student. I would be 38 when I would potentially start med school. I’m married with three kids. We would have to move for school so we would not have any family help. I’m looking at prob 500k in debt before interest or so. Since I’m older I’m thinking of doing IM or family practice. Would this be a terrible idea? I’m starting to think the debt isn’t worth it. I have... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Starting solo practice in NJ - chances of success
I’ve heard all the doom and gloom, I’ve been thru 7 years of employment in various settings (Hospitalist; UC, and traditional FP). I’m sick and tired of being employed and being a cog in a wheel for a hospital or health system. I’ve saved prudently, and I would like to open a solo family practice in central NJ. All I hear is to do cash only, or concierge. I want to do a traditional practice, outpatient only, and take all major insurers. What are my chances for success? What should I... Can an ER doctor start a private primary care practice?
Had a question, when I'm tired of EM, am I able to open a primary care type practic? Yes I know I won't be board certified in Family practice, but is there a legal reason that couldn't have a private practice managing BP, DM, annual checks/health maintenance, weight loss, etc for a slower pace? After all you have Fam med/Int med in EM, and god knows we see enough primary care stuff in ER. Yes I would have to bone up on stuff to fill in any gaps in knowledge but assuming I'm appropriately... Declining reimbursements
Hi guys, I have been a pharmacist for about 8 years and hate it. Thinking of going into a med school and getting into family practice field. What worries me, is that there is such a decline in reimbursements by Medicare that on many drugs we lose money. You would think it would be the case with medicine in general, right? What do you guys see in your practice? I am interested in monetary implications. I would not want to spend all these money on med school and then earn 30K per year... ( I...
