Oral corticosteroids for post-infectious cough in adults: study protocol for a double-blind randomized placebo-controlled trial in Swiss family practices (OSPIC trial)
DiscussionThis RCT will provide evidence on whether oral corticosteroids are beneficial and safe in patients with post-infectious cough. Results can have a substantial impact on the well-being and management of these patients in Switzerland and beyond. An evidence-based treatment for this condition may reduce re-consultations with GPs and spending for antitussive drugs, thus possibly having an impact on health care spending.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.govNCT04232449. REDUCE (Reviewing long-term antidepressant use by careful monitoring in everyday practice) internet and telephone support to people coming off long-term antidepressants: protocol for a randomised controlled trial
DiscussionHelping patients reduce and stop antidepressants is often challenging for practitioners and time-consuming for very busy primary care practices. If REDUCE provides evidence showing that access to internet and telephone support enables more patients to stop treatment without increasing depression we will try to implement the intervention throughout the National Health Service, publishing practical guidance for professionals and advice for patients to follow, publicised through patient support groups.Trial registrationISRCTN:12417565.
