Cultivating a humble and modest professional demeanor
Should PainSpecialists strive to cultivate a humble and modest professional demeanor like pediatricians or family practice docs or should we be more “in your face” specialty like plastics, deem, or spine surgery? Imagine if no one Pain dressed up in fancy suits at conference ms and drove fast, expensive cars and instead just cane “as you are” in comfortable Dad jeans and JCPenny shirts and ties? Would purposely presenting ourselves this improve the specialty’s reputation and would... Cultivating a humble and modest professional demeanor (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Current fellows how ’s the job hunt 2019
Similar iterations of this post have circulated Before. Wondering how thing are now. I am good friends with an MD recruiter around Boston and currently for family practice his clients are offering base of 225-250 salary, + performance based bonus, + bene’s, + matching on 401k up to IRS max, 25 K sign on, and 100K loan forgiveness for 5 yrs of work (20K /yr). And still has huge difficulty recruiting new hires. Folks visit once and often twice and get dozens of offers and more often than... Should I reapply? & where can my application be improved??
Hello~ Throughout the 2018-2019 application cycle, I received 3 IIs and am now sitting on 3 waitlists. Now that I am thinking to reapply for the new application cycle, I've come to realize that I really have not done much throughout the year to better my application. I shadowed for about ~30hours total (preceptorship + private family practice DO shadowing) and volunteered at a hospital for ~60hours. Aside from that, I've been working as a waiter part-time (~1400hrs) and volunteering at... Should I reapply? & where can my application be improved?? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

going out on a date with a patient you've had on rotations?
Already know it's not ok for doctors to date their patients, but does the same ethical principle also apply to medical students on rotations? Can't seem to find anything about this online, unless it's just that the same principles apply. Matched with a girl on tinder that i later realized i took a history and physical exam from while on family practice placement in a small town. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Non-trad applicant working in healthcare
I'm 27, currently an epidemiologist at a hospital. My interests are in HIV/AIDS, antibiotic resistance, DR-TB, global public health etc. Many epidemiologists earn clinical degrees, and clinical degree (MD/DO/NP/PA) would allow more options for the future if my career path changes (e.g. like if in 15 years I want to work in family practice instead of public health practice). In this thread I am specifically asking about Med school. I don't know much about Admissions other than that it's very... Non-trad applicant working in healthcare (Source: Student Doctor Network)

'Please Change the Culture of Surgery'
Doximity | Please Change the Culture of Surgery It is December 2017. I have been on the road for the last five months, completing my five months of elective rotations. I am a fourth-year medical student aspiring to specialize in family medicine. I also want to learn procedures, so I did two months of surgery, three months of family practice electives. At the beginning of this process, I had wanted to be a general surgeon,... 'Please Change the Culture of Surgery' (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Possible Reapplication. Need advice, 514MCAT, 3.45 c and sgpa!
My MCAT is a balanced 514 (129/128/128/129). My Cgpa/sgpa is around a 3.4, this is my biggest weakness. I am a bioengineer, so this definitely contributed to my low GPA. I have 4 publications in high impact journals, have clinical volunteering in a nursing home (200 hours), nonclinical volunteering (STEM outreach, 500 hours), have shadowed family practice physicians (50 hours), and an orthopedic surgeon and EM doctor for 20 hours each. I also was on the exec board for an academic fraternity.... Possible Reapplication. Need advice, 514MCAT, 3.45 c and sgpa! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

progressive FP scope of practice
I was browsing through Canadian CFPC website and came across various FM programs in Canada that offer advanced training to FPs including FP Anesthesia, Emergency, Oncology. How awesome are they! We need to start developing leaders in our field that would advocate for FPs to unlock our potential to provide more services to our patients. Nontrad mid life (38) pursuing MD/DO?
Hello all. I wanted some external thoughts on my situation. Straight out of high school overseas, I enlisted in the military as a medic. After 8 years I moved to the US and have been working as an EMT for 9/11, EDs and in family practice as a patient care tech/MA. I recently spent several months working as a tech in a cancer center. I started a bachelors of science majoring in biology in Jan 2016. I had a high risk pregnancy and my husband was laid off, so I withdrew at the end of the... Nontrad mid life (38) pursuing MD/DO? why would anyone with a brain go into Primary Care?
So, i have been contemplating Family practice or primary care for a while, but after shadowing a solo DO today, at her family practice. I don't see how it;s a viable choice, i mean we went over the financial side of the equation, she stated having trouble making ends meet. Thus will be switching to a direct primary care model, under-which no insurance company will be involved!! At the end of the day, i couldn't help it but connect the dot between dying podiatry practice and family care. I... why would anyone with a brain go into Primary Care? Looking for advice on Family Practice Program vs. NP or ND
Hello - I know what I want to do but need advice on how to get there. I want to be in the functional medicine field working in working with clients on preventative care. The problem is I don't know the best course of action to get me there. Honestly, I am in my 40's looking to go back to school and start from scratch. So I need to make sure I don't waste my time or money following a degree only to find I can't apply my credits to get me to the end goal. I have researched Naturopath,... 514 MCAT, about 3.4 C/Sgpa
Hi all, I would just like to figure out what to do before applying early in June. My MCAT is a balanced 514 (129/128/128/129). My Cgpa/sgpa is around a 3.4, this is my biggest weakness. I am a bioengineer, so this definitely contributed to my low GPA (probably helped with the MCAT).
