The relationship between religiosity/spirituality and quality of life among female Eritrean refugees living in Norwegian asylum centres
CONCLUSION: Consistent with previous research, this study highlights the correlation between religiosity/spirituality and overall quality of life. We recommend a longitudinal follow-up study of similar populations, after they are resettled and integrated into their host countries, to understand the associations between quality of life and religiosity/spirituality over time.PMID:33876654 | DOI:10.1177/00207640211010207 (Source: The International Journal of Social Psychiatry)

A Novel mutation in the Thyroglobulin Gene resulting in Neonatal Goiter and Congenital Hypothyroidism in an Eritrean infant
We present the case of a woman of Eritrean origin who presented in the third trimester of pregnancy in the early stages of labor. Ultrasound at presentation revealed a fetal neck swelling consistent with a goiter. Following delivery by caesarian section with minimal respiratory support, the infant was found to be hypothyroid with undetectable serum levels of thyroglobulin. Sequencing of the thyroglobulin gene revealed a homozygous donor splice site pathogenic variant (c.5686+1delG) not previously described in the literature. Levothyroxine treatment resulted in normal growth and psychomotor development. Goitrous CH with ina...

Louse-borne relapsing fever —A systematic review and analysis of the literature: Part 1—Epidemiology and diagnostic aspects
by Pascal Kahlig, Daniel H. Paris, Andreas Neumayr Louse-borne relapsing fever (LBRF) is a classical epidemic disease, which in the past was associated with war, famine, poverty, forced migration, and crowding under poor hygienic conditions around the world. The disease’s causative pathogen, the spirochete bacteriumBorrelia recurrentis, is confined to humans and transmitted by a single vector, the human body lousePediculus humanus. Since the disease has had its heyday before the days of modern medicine, many of its aspects have never been formally studied and to date, remain incompletely understood. In order to shed lig...

A global, regional, and national survey on burden and Quality of Care Index (QCI) of hematologic malignancies; global burden of disease systematic analysis 1990 –2017
ConclusionsThe QCI provides a robust metric to evaluate the quality of care that empowers policymakers on their responsibility to allocate the resources effectively. We found that there is an association between development status and QCI and gender equity, indicating that instant policy attention is demanded to improve health-care access.
