please follow Express Script's lead to reduce opioid abuse and reduce poisoning your community and hospital ER. it is already at epidemic level! the physician provides the gun (scripts). the pharmacist provides the bullet (opioids). and the patients pull the trigger. understand that analogy and save your community. stop the recklessness in dispensing opioids! Re: Opioid crisis
A good read from KevinMD. It describes exactly how I feel about the problem. I don't think I have anything else to add. Just wanted to share. Feel free to share your thoughts. Link to the full article below. ============================== I would like to suggest that the root of this opioid epidemic lies far deeper than “physicians overprescribing.” The problem is that we are now a society of adults who have no coping skills. No ability to deal with the curves that life throws us. Everyone... Re: Opioid crisis (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pharm. D. and Law Enforcement Jobs
I was just wondering, with the drug epidemic and all, if someone has heard of any types of careers in law enforcement openning up with a preference for someone with a Pharm. D.? Is there any job in LE that values a Pharm D. at all? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pharmacists Held Criminally Liable for Opioid Overdoses
As the US opioid epidemic continues to soar, physicians have been held criminally responsible for patients' overdose deaths. Now, it appears pharmacists are also criminally liable. That's the opinion of pharmacy law experts who have watched the crisis unfold during the past decade. Keith Yoshizuka, PharmD, JD, assistant dean for administration at the Touro University College of Pharmacy, Vallejo, California, notes, for example, that in 2015, a California physician, Lisa Tseng, MD, was... Your Opinion on Diet and Nutrition
It's quite alarming that in this metabolic syndrome epidemic, there is a divergence of opinion from health professionals regarding an appropriate diet. There is a growing proponent of supporters for a low carb high-fat (LCHF) diet as described in dietdoctor.com, and supported by physicians like Canadian nephrologist and LCHF evangelist Dr. Jason Fung. These proponents argue that the low-fat craze was initiated from poor studies and continued via sugar lobbyists and good ol' medical inertia.... Epidemic of Parents trying to get younger kids on narcotics
In the last year, I have seen a decent number of patients from the 18-25 year age range with literally zero objective pathology that appear to be unable to tolerate any non narcotic medications for their "pain" state. Of course, I immediately drug test them and send them to our psychiatrist while telling them narcotic medications are NOT a good solution for this problem (zero of them have gotten ANY scripts from me for any pain meds). Most of these patients UDS's are positive for... Epidemic of Parents trying to get younger kids on narcotics (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thoughts on anatomy of an epidemic
Recently accepted premed who's starting med school in August. I have been reading the book "Anatomy of an Epidemic" by Robert Whittaker. When I first started reading the book, I almost stopped because his attitude seemed so flippant/glib. Eventually though, I found myself questioning my long held assumptions about the efficacy of psychiatric drugs. I've read some critical reviews online, and at times he definetly uses questionable logic to arrive at his conclusions. Nevertheless, he presents... Frustrated by AUC
I've said this before but I'm continually frustrated by the appropriate use criteria for mohs because they don't go far enough. Who thinks it's totally appropriate ( not even uncertain) to treat a 3mm primary SCCis on the shin with mohs? How did all those committee members agree on things like that? It's kind of like the dysplastic nevi over-treatment epidemic. I get patients surprised that I don't biopsy 5-10 moles at their first visit with me (which will then probably generate 2-3... Did "Deaths of Despair" Propel Trump to Victory??
https://www.thenation.com/article/did-the-opioid-epidemic-help-donald-trump-win/ "Monnat’s research doesn’t prove that deaths of despair alone caused the swing towards Trump (or caused Democratic voters to stay home), just that there is an association. After controlling for more than a dozen factors, Monnat found that some of the relationship can be explained by economic distress, which is acute in many of the areas where Trump over-performed and where mortality rates are...
