'Brain Dictionary' Maps Where Specific Words Are Represented In The Mind
In this study, our goal was not to ask a specific question. Our goal was to map everything so that we can ask questions after that," said Gallant. "One of the most frequent questions we get is, 'What does it mean?' If I gave you a globe, you wouldn't ask what it means, you'd start using it for stuff. You can look for the smallest ocean or how long it will take to get to San Francisco." This "data-driven approach" still involves assumptions about how to break up language into different categories of meaning. To MIT neuroscientist Evelina Fedorenko, though, it's exciting that Gallant's team has been able to record what...

A Nutritionist's Guide to Stocking a Healthy Kitchen
It's no secret that preparing our own meals makes it easier to stick to a healthy-eating plan. You know the ingredients going into your food, and there's no sneaky extra sodium, sugar or calorie bombs hiding in home-cooked meals. That being said, it can also be time consuming to make everything at home, not to mention the time it takes to go to the grocery store if all the elements aren't already in your kitchen. If I told you to close your eyes and imagine a dinner salad, what would you see? If you're like many of my patients, "salad" brings up thoughts of dieting, deprivation, and yes -- boredom. Truth is, if you're doing salad the right way, it can actually become a staple you look upon as delicious nutrition. Here's how to do salad right! Bernie Sanders' Suit Sparks A Debate Like We Haven't Seen Since #TheDress
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) wore a suit during Wednesday's Democratic debate that sparked a debate all its own. Much like #TheDress, Sanders' suit didn't seem to be one definitive color. While his campaign's rapid response director tweeted that the suit was blue, the suit appeared brown to many watching TV. A debate ensued: The suit's blue, people. Not even kidding about this.— Aaron Blake (@AaronBlake) March 10, 2016 Is Bernie Sanders wearing a dark brown suit, or is that my TV?— Josh Greenman (@joshgreenman) March 10, 2016 Bernie's suit is clearly brown and while it doesn't look great with ...

21-Day Challenge
My husband, daughter, and I are embarking on a 21-Day Challenge to eat cleanly. My daughter has tried it before -- for my husband and me, this is all new, but we consented to give it a try, all in the name of family harmony. Given my recent podcast with Michael Farrington on nutrition for junior tennis players, I thought I would expand on that theme and share some recipes and menu ideas that you can adapt to suit your family's needs. At the beginning of January, Emma returned to Atlanta for a 3-month stint, testing the local acting waters. She has been living in the Los Angeles area since leaving for college back in 200...

Drip irrigation rates tested for eggplant growth and yield
(American Society for Horticultural Science) Experiments assessed the effects of irrigation rate on plant growth and fruit yield in eggplant. Plants irrigated at 67 percent ETc produced fruit yields similar to those of plants irrigated at 100 percent ETc or higher rates, suggesting that eggplant may tolerate mild water stress. The study results showed a potential to save water by reducing current irrigation rates without negatively impacting fruit yields in eggplant. (Source: EurekAlert! - Medicine and Health)
