We’ve received some questions about shipment and receipt of biological samples, particularly in the context of the ongoing Ebola outbreak in West Africa; for example, whether grantees can accept biological materials from Africa, and whether NIH has in place any requirements for transporting such research materials. The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is the largest Ebola outbreak in history. NIH appreciates the humanitarian assistance being provided by NIH-supported program directors and principal investigators who travel to West Africa to participate in emergency response activities. As described in NIH Guide Notice NOT-OD-15-010, we have made accommodations to provide additional time for application submission and grant-related reporting for these investigators.
