Intracranial mycotic aneurysm rupture following cupping therapy
CONCLUSION: This case serves as a reminder of life-threatening infectious complication risks after cupping therapy. A patient who has a compromised skin barrier may experience serious adverse effects, especially when cupping is performed without implementing suitable infection prevention measures.PMID:38742002 | PMC:PMC11090582 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_99_2024 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Multimodal management of giant solid hemangioblastomas in two patients with preoperative embolization
CONCLUSION: Solid hemangioblastomas are less frequent than their cystic counterparts. The treatment is the surgical resection, which is a challenge and always has to be considered as an arteriovenous malformation in the surgical planning, including preoperative embolization to reduce perioperative morbidity and mortality and get good outcomes.PMID:38742001 | PMC:PMC11090543 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_28_2024 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Comparing equiosmolar hypertonic saline and mannitol for achieving brain relaxation in elective craniotomy patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: HS appears more effective than mannitol in achieving brain relaxation, and it may offer advantages in fluid management and Na+ balance. Clinicians should consider these findings when selecting hyperosmotic agents for neurosurgical procedures. Further research is needed to address heterogeneity in certain outcomes and guide clinical practice.PMID:38741989 | PMC:PMC11090577 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_994_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Akinetic mutism following bilateral parasagittal meningioma occupied supplementary motor area removal and the spontaneous recovery of symptoms
CONCLUSION: Surgery for lesions involving bilateral SMA can cause akinetic mutism. The typical manifestation of this syndrome may be devastating. However, it is reversible, and patients can regain full motor and cognitive functions over time without specific treatments. It is crucial to persevere and continue to provide the best care to the patient until recovery.PMID:38742016 | PMC:PMC11090544 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_130_2024 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Metastatic choroid plexus papilloma presenting as a sellar mass: A case report and literature review
CONCLUSION: Extraventricular manifestation of CPP is rare. De novo or metastatic involvement of the sella has seldom been reported. Treatment should target gross total surgical resection. Adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation may be useful in higher-grade lesions.PMID:38742015 | PMC:PMC11090562 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_847_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)
