Stryker ’ s Howmedica owes $13m in fees in Zimmer Biomet patent spat
Stryker‘s (NYSE:SYK) Homedica is on the hook for approximately $13.3 million in attorney’s fees and $513,258 in costs due to Zimmer Biomet (NYSE:ZBH) as a result of a patent dispute, according to recently unsealed court documents.
The award is the result of a long-running patent spat over polymers between the two companies that ended in four of Howmedica’s patents being invalidated, court documents indicate.
The fees were awarded on April 20, and unsealed earlier this month.
Last June, the New Jersey Supreme Court approved a bid to consolidate state court lawsuits against Stryker over an allegedly defective hip...

ViewRay shares dip despite Q1 earnings Beat
Shares in ViewRay (NSDQ:VRAY) fell today despite the medical device maker posting first quarter earnings that beat expectations on Wall Street.
The Cleveland-based company posted losses of $7.5 million, or 11¢ per share, on sales of $26.2 million for the three months ended March 31, seeing losses shrink 73% while sales grew over 2000% compared with the same period during the previous year.
Losses per share were ahead of the 19¢ consensus on Wall Street, where analysts expected to see sales of $12.1 million, which the company handily topped.

Sotera Health to sell its Nordion medical isotopes biz
Sotera Health said today it inked a deal to sell the medical isotopes segment of its Nordion business to a subsidiary of BWX Technologies for an undisclosed amount.
Through the deal, Broadview Heights, Ohio-based Sotera Health will divest itself of all of Nordion’s medical isotope assets, including its radiochemical operation and contract manufacturing services in Kanata and its medical isotope operation in Vancouver.

ViewRay wins Japanese approval for MRIdian Linac system
ViewRay (NSDQ:VRAY) said today it won Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare Shonin approval for its MRIdian Linac linear accelerator system.
The newly cleared MRIdian Linac device replaces the cobalt it utilized with linear accelerator technology, the Cleveland, Ohio-based company said. The company won FDA approval for the device last February.
ViewRay touted the MRIdian as the first and only MRI-guided radiation therapy system to receive Japanese Shonin approval. The company is represented by Itochu corporation in Japan, which it claims is one of the three largest general trading companies in the country.
