Skin closUre in carPal tunnEl Release (SUPER): protocol for a blinded randomised controlled trial comparing absorbable and non-absorbable sutures in carpal tunnel release
Introduction Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common disorder affecting a substantial portion of the general population. Surgical intervention is often deemed necessary, with the median nerve release being one of the most frequent operations. Optimising all the aspects of this procedure can enhance patient satisfaction with the treatment. Methods and analysis We aim to determine the differences in the aesthetic outcome of the scar as well as the pain experienced during the healing process between the use of absorbable and non-absorbable sutures. The primary outcome measure will be the patients’ subjective satisfaction wi...

Value of multi-modality small fiber assessments in a genotypically diverse cohort of transthyretin-related amyloidosis in the early stages of disease
CONCLUSIONS: In a diverse cohort of ATTRv patients, CCM was the most frequent abnormal measurement. CCM can be a useful test to triage patients in the early disease stages and with few or equivocal symptoms.PMID:38616431 | DOI:10.1016/j.medcli.2024.02.012 (Source: Medicina Clinica)

Patient experiences and perspectives of health service access for carpal tunnel syndrome in Aotearoa New Zealand: a normalisation process theory-informed qualitative study
Early access to care for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) can avoid higher rates of surgery and permanent harm yet is often delayed, particularly for populations more likely to underutilise care. (Source: BMC Health Services Research)

Optimizing carpal tunnel decompression: evaluating the significance of transligamentous thenar motor branch variations in severe carpal tunnel release
ConclusionsDespite the release of the transverse carpal ligament in transligamentous type thenar motor branch variations, motor strength may continue to decrease. It is suggested that in these patients, the ligament piece on the motor branch should also be excised additionally.Level of EvidenceLevel IV, Risk/Prognostic study.
