Why do Psychiatrists always try to “analyse” others
First off let me begin by saying that I’m a general resident in Australia who is aiming to start psychiatry training next year.
But one thing that always puts me off is the behaviour of psychiatrists and psychiatry registrars. They always try to “analyse” people and in a somewhat toxic manner. Im not talking about patients, but other collegues doctors, nurses and even at a dinner, the patrons.
I find it somewhat odd and they do it in a way as if they are putting the other person down?
It...

Loan Options for UQ (Canadian)
Hi everyone, recently accepted to UQ in Australia, and was wondering what my Canadian loan options would be. Is there any support from the province (Ontario - OSAP)? Thanks in advance! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hi there,

UK IMG moving to Australia
Hello! I'm an IMG planning to take plab and do the fy1. I then plan on moving to Australia through the competent authority pathway. I want to pursue a surgery residency but it's only available to PR and citizens. Is it possible that the hospital I do my supervision (i.e. before getting the general registration) year in would sponsor me for a PR status? Or do I have to get my general registration first?
Also, if I do my core surgical training in UK can I apply for a PR as a surgeon( general)...

USyd & UQ Application (Traditional MD) 2022
Hey all,
Just submitted my applications to USyd and UQ a week ago for the traditional MD programmes. Created this thread to connect with others who are also applying to Australian medical schools for 2022 and also feeling a bit antsy about uncertainty and if the borders will open for future international students. I am also from Singapore so feel free to reach me if anyone wants to discuss about future accoms too or just connecting. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Low GPA. SMP, Postbacc, or Caribbean?
Hello everyone! I'm not sure if I should enroll in a postbacc, SMP, or apply abroad (Caribbean/Ireland/Australia) for medical programs. What do you recommend?
3.1 cGPA and 2.6 sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMA due to terrible grades during dual enrollment and Academic probation freshman year
No MCAT
Florida
URM: AA male
I received my associates at a community college through dual enrollment, and I'm now a senior at the University of Miami
Non-Clinical...

Canadian student wanting to stay and practice med in Australia
Hello everyone,
I couldn't find an exact thread answering my questions regarding wanting to stay and practice medicine in Australia, so here are my questions. How hard is it to obtain an internship/residency in Australia as a Canadian student? If it is difficult, could I apply for permanent residence in Australia so that I would be a part of the Australian citizen pool for residency matching (since they are apparently prioritized)?
Feel free to provide any other insight on staying in Aus...

Australian Medical school and matching
Hello! I’m currently considering applying to Australian medical schools, specifically USyd and maybe UMelb. I feel like my stats are okay enough for a DO school, but I think a global education could add a lot to how I practice medicine. I’m also currently getting my MPH in epidemiology/ biostatistics from Boston U and don’t want to wait the extra year to apply to US schools.
Any US citizens go to an Australian school and struggle to get matched into residency after returning?
I know USyd...

US Fellowship as an Australian Physician
Hi all,
I am currently a medical student in Australia (AU citizen) who is potentially exploring the possibility of completing a fellowship overseas - potentially the U.S. Note that I do not intend to stay in America to practice. I have written this post to get some better clarity on the situation, in order to make a more informed decision as to whether I should bother sitting the USMLEs.
1. I have heard that there are advantages in obtaining an overseas fellowship with regards to career...
