Symptoms and steroid dose adjustments following the Covid-19 vaccine in patients with adrenal insufficiency
DiscussionThe Covid-19 vaccines appear well-tolerated in patients with AI, with similar frequency of symptoms to that reported in the background population. The AZ vaccine leads to slightly greater post-vaccination symptom burden and need to increase glucocorticoid dosage, but this does not translate to greater adverse outcomes. (Source: Pituitary)

Comparison of post-COVID-19 vaccination hypermetabolic lymphadenopathy on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT between virus-vector vaccine and mRNA vaccine
ConclusionsThe mRNA mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine was found to be associated with higher glucose hypermetabolism in regional lymph nodes within the first 4  weeks compared with the virus-vector vaccine, as indicated by the presence of HLN on FDG PET/CT. The degree of glucose hypermetabolism was comparable between the two vaccines. (Source: European Journal of Medical Research)

Delayed adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination in patients with systemic sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases: a substudy of the COVAD-2 cohort
In this study, we analysed delayed COVID-19 vaccine-related ADEs among patients with SSc, other systemic autoimmune and inflammatory disorders (SAIDs) and healthy controls (HCs) using data from the second COVAD study c onducted in 2022. The COVAD-2 study was a cross-sectional, patient self-reported global e-survey conducted from February to June 2022. Data on demographics, SSc/SAID disease characteristics, COVID-19 infection history, and vaccination details including delayed ADEs as defined by the Centre for Disea se Control were captured and analysed. Among 17,612 respondents, 10,041 participants fully vaccinated against ...

FDA Will Evaluate First Self-Administered FluMist Vaccine
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) agreed to review an application to allow eligible adult patients to self-administer FluMist, AstraZeneca ’s nasal spray flu vaccine that uses a live, weakened version of the virus to prompt an immune response. Under the application, caregivers would also be able to administer the vaccine to people aged 2 to 49 years who are not immunocompromised. (Source: JAMA - Journal of the American Medical Association)

Validation of a Natural Language Machine Learning Model for Safety Literature Surveillance
ConclusionCharacterizing model performance prospectively, under real-world conditions, allows us to thoroughly examine model consistency and failure modes, qualifying it for use in our surveillance processes. We also identify potential future improvements and recognize the opportunity for the community to collaborate on this shared task. (Source: Drug Safety)

Adverse events after first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccination in England: a national vaccine surveillance platform self-controlled case series study
CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19 vaccines are associated with a small decrease in the incidence of medically attended AEIs. Sentinel networks could routinely report common AEI rates, which could contribute to reporting vaccine safety.PMID:37921538 | DOI:10.1177/01410768231205430 (Source: J R Soc Med AND (has...)
