Seizure in the Skies of Remoteness: A Case Review
Conclusion While this case review describes an unusual approach to a medical retrieval, remote healthcare providers in developing nations face major clinical, ethical and legal challenges such as these described. The challenges of prehospital care are dynamic, yet in the remote context they are even more so. In these situations, a careful assessment of risk verses reward is paramount. Aerosol generation during airway management, Difficult Airway Society
The precautionary principle should be adhered to and while there is uncertainty HCW safety should be prioritised. Public Health bodies from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and NERVTAG may update their guidance in the light of the evolving evidence base, but until then, our recommendation is to maintain current standards of protection against aerosol transmission during airway management. Airway management of patients with COVID-19 is high risk to staff and patients. Guidance has been published directed at adult practice. The vast majority of this guidance is also applicable to paediatric patients. This consensus statement provides advice for anaesthetists who undertake airway management in paediatric patients suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 and seeks to provide clarity where that guidance differs for paediatric patients. It is not directly relevant to neonatal practice in neonatal ICUs (NICUs). (Source: Current Awareness Service for Health (CASH))
