Kuan-Teh Jeang Lecture: Artificial Intelligence, Ophthalmology … and Being an Asian-American Clinician-Scientist

Kuan-Teh Jeang Memorial LectureKuan-Teh Jeang, a powerful advocate for the advancement of Asian-American scientists, was a virologist and chief of the molecular virology section of NIAID's Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology. Jeang died in 2013. This annual lecture in his name celebrates his legacy and is held in May as an Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month event. The lecture is cosponsored by the Office of Intramural Research and the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.Dr. Chiang is an ophthalmologist with extensive experience as a clinician, researcher, and educator. His research involves telemedicine and artificial intelligence for diagnosis of retinopathy of prematurity and other ophthalmic diseases, implementation and evaluation of electronic health record systems, modeling of clinical workflow, and data analytics.Prior to being named director of the National Eye Institute in 2020, Dr. Chiang was the Knowles Professor of Ophthalmology& Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology at Oregon Health& Science University (OHSU), Portland, and associate director of the OHSU Casey Eye Institute.https://www.nei.nih.gov/about/nei-leadership/michael-f-chiang-mdAir date: 5/26/2022 1:00:00 PM
