Obesity is a huge public health issue affecting around 10-15% of the adult population worldwide [1]. Over the last decades, the prevalence of obesity has continued to increase among women of reproductive age, involving nearly 25% of pregnant women in developed countries [2]. Pregnancy occurs in 18% and 50% of obese and overweight women, respectively [3].
