CONCLUSIONS: Awareness of possible repercussions of the celiac trunk stenosis to peripancreatic arteries should be elevated. Restoration of physiological blood flow by removing pathologic anatomy should be performed. Since there is no correlation between the size of a visceral aneurysm and the risk of rupture, having a high postrupture mortality, pancreaticoduodenal artery aneurysms should be treated even if asymptomatic. Surgical treatment remains the mainstay treatment of the Dunbar syndrome complicated by visceral aneurysms. PMID: 31961777 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

This study investigates the effects of QD on murine dextran sulfate sodium salt-induced colitis. Oral administration of QD protected the animals from colitis as manifested by weight loss, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. QD was distinguishingly more effective than 5-aminosalicylate. Focused microarray analysis of genes expressed in the distal colon suggested that QD influences the inflammatory pathway. Anti-inflammatory activity of QD was confirmed by the suppression of nitric oxide (NO) production in response to interleukin-1β in cultured hepatocytes. Some of the constituents in QD, such as tryptanthrin (TRYP) and indi...

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are on the verge of making some gastrointestinal treatments more convenient and safer for patients. There are a variety of ingested devices that remain in the GI tract for an extended period of time, like bariatric balloons that are inflated in the stomach to promote weight loss or stents to keep the esophagus open. But removing these devices usually required endoscopic procedures. MIT engineers demonstrated a bariatric balloon that can be inflated in the stomach and then degraded by shining light on the seal, which is made of a novel lig...
