AsbtractPurpose of ReviewThe aim of this paper is to describe clinical manifestations of oral infection by human papillomavirus (HPV), as every year higher numbers of patients are admitted to hospital with intraoral lesion.Recent FindingsIn recent years there has been a growing interest in HPV oral medicine, suggesting a role of such a family of viruses in the development of neoplasms of the oropharyngeal district as well as of the uterine cervix. As the interaction between the head& neck region and HPV is better understood, prognosis of the diseases especially for malignant lesions, are get better understood and more researches are run about treatment options.SummaryA systematic review of the literature was conducted to describe the state of the art about HPV infection in oropharyngeal mucosa and its modalities of transmission, with particular attention to possible simultaneous infection in multiple anatomic sites. Differential diagnoses and the description of benign, premalignant and malignant lesions are also given in details in order to make the consultant alert and provide the appropriate biopsy approach; excisional or incisional.  Therapeutic protocols are also described where necessary. The literature is not sufficient but promising for the HPV related head and neck cancers.
