Autonomic Regulation of Nociceptive and Immunologic Changes in a Mouse Model of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Chronic pain is a world-wide public health problem costing the US economy alone more than $600 billion annually 15. Due in part to our evolving understanding of this heterogeneous group of conditions, the recently revised International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) substantially reclassifies chronic pain in comparison to earlier schemes and includes a new category of “Chronic Postsurgical or Posttraumatic Pain” with the foremost diagnostic criterion being pain lasting three months or longer from the time of injury 55.
