COVID-19 has been with us for the past 20 months. We have learned a lot on how to improve occupational environments to reduce transmission. However, in some workplaces, it is difficult to modify the environment due to operational requirements. For example, cold working environments, like slaughterhouses and meat processing plants. Cunninghamet al. [1] found that cold and dry conditions are associated with increased transmission and cold environments could have deleterious effects on human immune responses to SARS-CoV-2. The emphasis should be on identifying person-focused interventions such as thermal and respiratory protection to reduce the risk of transmission.
