A Mixed-Methods Analysis of a Single-Institution Radiation Oncology Virtual Medical Student Rotation

The COVID-19 pandemic prompted the widespread development of virtual rotations, replacing traditional in-person experiences.1,2 These rotations introduce the role of radiation in cancer care and recruit students to residency programs. The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco developed a comprehensive 2-week virtual rotation that aimed to maintain broad clinical exposure for medical students. However, effective strategies for incorporating students into clinical interactions, modeling interdisciplinary practice, assessing students' growth, and facilitating interpersonal interactions between students, residents, and faculty using the virtual platform remain unclear.
