Hypertension (HTN) is the leading modifiable risk factor for both incident and recurrent strokes.1 The control of HTN achieved in High-Income Countries has led to a significant diminution in the burden and mortality from strokes2 –8 unlike the scenario in many Low-and-Middle Income Countries (LMICs).9,10 In particular, sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has the highest estimated effect size of HTN for stroke causation worldwide.11 HTN is often uncontrolled in a significant proportion of the adult population in SSA.
