Skin dose assessment in interventional radiology

For long and complex procedures in interventional radiology (IR) or in interventional cardiology (IC), the skin dose can be high and induce skin injuries such as radiodermatitis or alopecia [1 –3]. To improve patient follow-up, the ICRP Committee 3 recommends locating and measuring the peak skin dose (PSD) [4]. This issue constitutes a major challenge in patient radiation protection for medical physicists and many studies on this subject have been published over the last decade.
