Proteoglycans regulate protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor σ organization on hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells

Hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation is utilized in the curative therapy of thousands of patients with hematologic malignancies and blood dyscrasias annually [1]. In the United States, only 16% –75% of all patients who meet an indication for an allogeneic HSC transplant will have a human leukocyte antigen (HLA)–matched sibling or matched unrelated donor available [2]. In such patients, alternative donor HSC transplantation can be performed, utilizing either human cord blood or haploide ntical related donors [3–8].
