Pathomechanism and prevention of further surgery after posterior decompression for lumbar spinal canal stenosis in patients with diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis

Lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSS) is a common degenerative disease that has increased proportionately with increased aging of the population. In a cross-sectional study in Japan, the prevalence of symptomatic LSS was 9.3% [1]. In another population-based study in Japan, the LSS prevalence increased with age and was particularly high at age 70-79  years, irrespective of gender [2]. Posterior lumbar decompression surgery for patients with LSS with neurological complications is a common spine surgery.
