Case report: Hyper Lp(a) and stroke in pediatric patient

Background and Aims: The incidence of stroke in children is low compared to the adult population, however it constitutes one of the 10 most frequent causes of childhood mortality. As for its etiology we must consider structural pathology, hematological, metabolic, infectious diseases and prothrombotic states. Lipoprotein a [Lp (a)] is a variant of LDL with a protein fraction known as apolipoprotein (a). High levels are considered atherogenic because of their implication in the formation of atheromatous plaque and because of fibrinolysis.
