Pathology of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody associated disease

AbstractThe antibody against myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG), localized at the outermost layers of myelin sheaths, was revealed in acute demyelinating diseases such as acute or multiphasic disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM/MDEM), optic neuritis, aquaporin ‐4 antibody negative neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), and brainstem or cerebral cortical encephalitis(1). However, MOG antibody is rarely observed in classical type multiple sclerosis (MS). There are some pathology‐proven cases of MOG antibody positive disease, reported as MS type II pathology(2).
