13.4 novel strategies for suicide risk assessment in the emergency department

A challenge when assessing suicide risk is the predominant reliance on patient self-report. Brief behavioral measures such as the Suicide Implicit Association Test (IAT) and adapted Suicide Stroop Task offer performance-based data points that may further inform clinical decision making. The current study tests the predictive validity of these novel performance-based assessments among a sample of suicidal adolescents presenting to a psychiatric emergency department (ED).
