Living Donor Liver Transplant for Dengue-Related Acute Liver Failure: A Case Report.

Living Donor Liver Transplant for Dengue-Related Acute Liver Failure: A Case Report. Exp Clin Transplant. 2020 Sep 17;: Authors: Chikkala BR, Pandey Y, Acharya R, Sreekumar S, Dey R, Agarwal S, Gupta S Abstract Dengue is a common viral infection, especially in tropical countries, and it is a well-known cause of acute liver failure. The effects on the liver range from a mild illness to acute liver failure. Dengue-related acute liver failure has a high mortality rate, and the role of liver transplant in such cases has been less studied, due to the rapid progression and often associated multiorgan dysfunction in severe cases. Here, we report the first living donor liver transplant for an acute liver failure due to dengue. Although liver transplant is not the choice of treatment for sick patients, timely intervention in specific patients may have a role. PMID: 32967597 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
