Is troponin T elevation associated with a poor outcome in infective endocarditis?

We have read with great interest the recently published original paper entitled “Troponin elevation is very common in patients with infective endocarditis and is associated with a poor outcome” by A. Postigo and colleagues [1]. This work concluded that TnT elevation is very common in patients with infective endocarditis (IE), particularly when the high-sensitivity assay is used, and the increase in TnT is associated with higher in-hospital mortality and frequency of complications. According to the protocol detailed in the paper, blood samples were drawn during hospitalization and stored in a lithium heparin container for subsequent analysis of TnT concentration.
