Sonoelastographic Evaluation of the Achilles Tendon in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetic foot is one of the dreaded complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). Alterations of the Achilles tendon (AT) may contribute to development of foot ulcers in diabetic patients. We evaluated the sonoelastographic abnormalities of the AT in 61 healthy volunteers and 81 patients with type 2 DM. The patients were further divided into those with and without peripheral neuropathy (PN). The AT thickness was measured in the proximal, middle and distal portions. Alterations in echo pattern were noted.
