Unmet Informational Needs Among Nursing Home Residents Receiving Antibiotics: A Qualitative Study (GP715)

In the last six months of life, over half of nursing home (NH) residents receive an antibiotic, of which 40% are deemed unnecessary. Antibiotic use exposes vulnerable residents to potential adverse drug reactions (e.g., nausea, diarrhea) and increases residents' risk for opportunistic, painful, and potentially fatal infections. Existing evidence of NH residents' experiences and attitudes towards antibiotic use is limited.
