Exploration of Child and Parent Preferences for Communication about Cancer (GP737)

Communication is often a challenge among children, families, and healthcare providers during provision of pediatric palliative care. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children participate to the fullest extent possible. The National Cancer Institute advises parents to have open and honest communication about cancer with their children, but questions remain about what, how, and when to communicate. Minimal research has explored preferences for communication strategies among children diagnosed with cancer and their parents.
