Management of drooling in children with cerebral palsy

Drooling, or sialorrhoea, is a common difficulty faced by children with neurological impairment including cerebral palsy. It may lead to a reduction in their quality of life, causing skin irritation, dehydration and high levels of embarrassment and social isolation for both the patient and family. This review will discuss the assessment of patients with sialorrhoea and potential management strategies including conservative management, medical options, botulinum toxin injections and surgery.
