In this study, GSE20347, GSE23400 and GSE45670 datasets were retrieved from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, and the overlapping differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in three datasets were screened. Then the overlapping DEGs function was annotated by Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway-enrichment analysis. The prognostic value of the top five KEGG pathway-related genes were further validated in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. After extensive statistical analysis, four genes (CDC25B, CXCL8, FZD6 and MCM4) were identified as potential prognostic markers. Among the four candidate genes, the...

ConclusionsOur results indicate that FUT8 functions as a driver of radio-resistance in ESCC by targeting CD147. Therefore, FUT8 may serve as a marker for predicting the response to radiation therapy in patients with ESCC.

ConclusionsWe must keep in mind that ESCC or high-grade dysplasia can occur overlying leiomyoma. These cases are rare but should not be neglected, especially in high-risk areas for ESCC. These patients can receive appropriate treatment if overdiagnosis or underdiagnosis can be avoided.

Authors: Shi X, Zhou R, Zheng L, Jiang M Abstract Aim: The clinicopathological and prognostic significance of C-MYC dysregulation (amplification or overexpression) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains controversial. Therefore, we performed this meta-analysis to elucidate this relationship. Materials &methods: Available studies were retrieved from PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library, and ten studies with a total of 1432 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Results: Pooled results showed that C-MYC dysregulation was significantly associated with poor overall ...

CONCLUSIONS: LH is a useful predictive tool in the evaluation of RLN LN metastasis for esophageal cancer. The present findings support the result that LH can be an indicator of RLN LN dissection. PMID: 32456390 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionsConsuming fresh fruit more than 12 times/year may reduce the long ‐term risk of ESCC mortality in this dysplasia population, particularly in females, non‐smokers, and nondrinkers. Future studies are needed to confirm these findings.

AbstractBackground and aimEndoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early gastrointestinal (GI) cancers is widely performed as a standard treatment in Japan. Given the increasing life expectancy worldwide, it is naturally regarded that the rate of elderly patients diagnosed with early GI cancer has increased. Available guidelines do not specifically outline how to manage endoscopic therapy for the elderly. The aim of this study was to assess the safety and usefulness of ESD for superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SESCC) in elderly patients.MethodsWe retrospectively investigated 393 consecutive patients, who un...

AbstractBackgroundPerfusion CT can offer functional information about tumor angiogenesis, and18F-FDG PET/CT quantifies the glucose metabolic activity of tumors. This prospective study aims to investigate the value of biologically relevant imaging biomarkers for predicting treatment response and survival outcomes in patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell cancer (LA ESCC).MethodsTwenty-seven patients with pathologically proven ESCC were included. All patients had undergone perfusion CT and18F-FDG PET/CT using separate imaging systems before receiving definitive chemoradiotherapy (dCRT). The perfusion paramet...

Conclusions: HIF-1α was a useful independent prognostic factor for surgically treated ESCC. Further studies with larger sample size are required to determine the relationship between the expression of HIF-1α, p53, VEGF, and clinicopathological parameters.
