Thyroglobulin can be a functional biomarker of iodine deficiency, thyroid nodules, and goiter in Chinese pregnant women.

Thyroglobulin can be a functional biomarker of iodine deficiency, thyroid nodules, and goiter in Chinese pregnant women. Asia Pac J Clin Nutr. 2020;29(1):27-34 Authors: Gao M, Chen Y, Zhang Y, Sun H, Zhang Q, Chen W, Wang W, Tan L, Shen J, Cheng Y, Zhang W Abstract BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Thyroglobulin (Tg) is considered a sensitive indicator of iodine status for children and adults, but its usefulness for pregnant women is unknown. The aim of this study was attempting to explore the relationship between Tg and iodine status and the association between elevated Tg and thyroid diseases. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN: A total of 2163 pregnant women were recruited in this study. The ratio of urine iodine concentration and urine creatinine concentration (UI/Cr) was measured in spot urine samples. Serum thyroid hormones and thyroglobulin were measured. Thyroid nodules and thyroid volume were diagnosed by ultrasound. RESULTS: The geometric mean of serum Tg was significantly higher in the UI/Cr 500 μg/g group (11.48 [2.35] μg/L) than in the 150-249 μg/g group (9.64 [2.32] μg/L). The generalized linear model analysis showed that Serum log(10) Tg concentration was much higher in the UI/Cr

Abstract OBJECTIVES: To develop and validate a nomogram based on fetal nuchal translucency (NT) and ultrasonographic facial markers for the screening of trisomy 21 in the first-trimester of pregnancy. METHODS: This was a retrospective case-control study using stored 2D midsagittal fetal profile images captured at 11+0 to 13+6 weeks' gestation. Our database was used to identify 302 cases of trisomy 21 pregnancies and 322 euploid pregnancies. For each case, the maternal age and ultrasonographic facial markers were investigated. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method and multivariable ana...

Abstract OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on maternal, perinatal and neonatal outcomes by performing a systematic review of available published literature on pregnancies affected by COVID-19. METHODS: We performed a systematic review to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 on pregnancy, perinatal and neonatal outcomes. We conducted a comprehensive literature search using PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database and Wan Fang Data until 20 April 2020 (studies were identified through PubMed alert after that date). For the research...

Abstract The aim of this study was to analyze whether dermal exposure to benzophenone 3 (BP-3) during pregnancy affects critical parameters of pregnancy, and whether this exposure may affect the outcome of a second pregnancy in mice. Pregnant mice were exposed to 50-mg BP-3/kg body weight/day or olive oil (vehicle) from gestation day (gd) 0 to gd6 by dermal exposure. High-frequency ultrasound imaging was used to follow up fetal and placental growth in vivo. Blood flow parameters in uterine and umbilical arteries were analyzed by Doppler measurements. Mice were killed at gd5, gd10, and gd14 on the first pregnancy, ...

AbstractPurposeTo evaluate the trends in prenatal diagnosis over 26 years in a tertiary referral hospital.MethodsA retrospective analysis of invasive prenatal procedures performed between 1991 and 2016. Maternal characteristics, indications for invasive diagnosis, and percentage of abnormal karyotypes were compared between periods according to guidelines implemented nationally and locally.ResultsA total of 14,302 invasive prenatal procedures were performed. The proportion of invasive procedures performed for advanced maternal age, abnormal karyotype in a previous pregnancy, and maternal anxiety decreased from 71.1%, 17.8%,...

Abstract Objective To evaluate the frequency of structural congenital anomalies (CAs) in the midwest of Brazil and its association with maternal risk factors. Methods This was a prospective, observational, case-control study based on a hospital population. Pregnant women attended at a fetal medicine service in Brazil were analyzed in the period from October 2014 to February 2016.A total of 357 pregnant women were included, 223 of whom had fetuses with structural anomalies (group case), and 134 of whom had structurally normal fetuses (control group). The clinical history was made previous to prenatal consultation, and the d...
