Authors: Holm A, Swahn E, Lawesson SS, Gustafsson KM, Janzon M, Jonasson L, Lindahl TL, Alfredsson J Abstract )Several earlier studies have reported increased risk of bleeding in women with myocardial infarction, (MI) compared to men. The reasons for the observed difference are incompletely understood, but one suggested explanation has been excess dosing of antithrombotic drugs in women. The aim of this prospective observational study was to assess sex differences in platelet activity in patients treated with three different platelet inhibitors. We recruited 125 patients (37 women and 88 men) with MI, scheduled for...

Authors: Mookerjee S, Foster HR, Waller AK, Ghevaert CJ Abstract Platelet transfusions are given to patients in hospital who have a low blood platelet count (thrombocytopenia) either because of major bleeding (following trauma or surgery) or because the bone marrow production of platelets is impaired often due to chemotherapy, infiltration with malignant cells, fibrosis or genetic disorders. We are currently entirely reliant on blood donors as a source of platelets in transfusion medicine. However, the demand for platelets continues to rise, driven by an aging population, advances in medical procedures and ever mor...

Nothing like 2008. I have personally never seen a market carve it’s way down and rebound so quickly. Covid market has been the single best market I have ever seen in such short time. If you had the guts to invest heavily you accelerated your retirement. Not out of the woods, but the market wants to move up and we are approaching an election year with a president whose main focus is the market highs. Airlines and oil jumping. Still some value out there but drying up. Those who... V shaped recovery

Authors: Cuenca-Llavall M, Pérez-Prieto D, Santiveri FJ, Garcia AL, Marqués F Abstract To determine whether local infiltration analgesia by catheter infusion was superior to conventional analgesia in terms of postoperative pain control after THR. A randomized double-blind clinical trial was performed. There were four groups based on catheter placement and the infusion constituents : 1) Intraarticular catheter + anesthetics ; 2) Intraarticular catheter +placebo ; 3) Subfascial catheter + anesthetics ; 4) Subfascial catheter + placebo. The anesthetic infusion contained bupivacaine (bolus + continuous pe...

HELLO!! I recently took step 1 as a 3rd year DO student. Unfortunately, I did worse than every NBME practice exam that I had taken prior. Not quite sure what went wrong, however, there is nothing I can do about it now except for try to figure out a way for anesthesia programs to look at my whole resume. My only concern is that with the COVID regulations, there will be many programs who filter out scores. I got a 209 which is below some programs 210 cut off. I also got a 529 on my... This study investigate the effectiveness of radial endobronchial ultrasound – transbronchial biopsy (R-EBUS-TBB) with thin bronchoscope in peripheral lung lesions. We compared the diagnostic yields and complication rates of REBUS-TBB with CT-PTNB in a total of 199 patients with peripheral lung lesions. Of the total 199 men, 120 were men and the mean age was 67.6 ± 12.5 years. The left upper lobe was 61 (30.7%) and right upper lobe was 59 (29.6%). 68.8% of the 137 confirmed cases were diagnosed as malignant. The diagnotic accuracy of R-EBUS-TBB in 56 patients was lower than CT-PTNB in 179 patients with statisti...
