The Effect of Prophylactic Central Neck Dissection During Hemithyroidectomy on Locoregional Recurrence in Patients With Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: A Meta-Analysis.

Conclusion.: Prophylactic central neck dissection significantly reduced the risk of recurrence in the central compartment in patients undergoing hemithyroidectomy. PMID: 32204579 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Guo D, Li F, Zhao X, Long B, Zhang S, Wang A, Cao D, Sun J, Li B Abstract Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common type of thyroid cancer. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a novel class of RNAs, with higher stability and tissue specificity, which may be of value as novel clinical markers. High‑throughput RNA sequencing was used to profile the expression of circRNAs in 5 pairs of cancer and normal tissues, and reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR (RT‑qPCR) analysis was employed to verify the results of the RNA sequencing in 45 cases of PTC. The dysregulated circRNA expression and clinic...

This study investigated the impact of gross extrathyroidal extension into major neck structures on the prognosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma according to changes in the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC)/Tumor-Node-Metastasis staging system. Overall, 183 patients with gross extrathyroidal extension into major neck structures were enrolled. The 10-year disease-specific survival (DSS) of patients in each stage showed appropriate correlation and stratification with the AJCC eighth edition. However, the 10-year DSS rate in stage III was better than the expected 10-year DSS rate, according to the AJCC eighth edition. ...

Circulating angiogenic factors have been associated with clinical outcomes of papillary thyroid carcinoma, although they may also be released in the context of benign multinodular goiter. We sought to investigate the effect of thyroidectomy on the activity and importance of multiple circulating angiogenic factors in papillary thyroid carcinoma and benign multinodular goiter.

han Kwon Jung Patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) have excellent survival, but recurrence remains a major problem in the management of PTC. We aimed to determine the prognostic impact of the expression of CD10 and CD15 in patients with PTC. Immunohistochemistry for CD10 and CD15 was performed on the tissue microarrays of 515 patients with PTC. The expression of CD10 and CD15 was detected in 201 (39.0%) and 295 (57.3%) of 515 PTC cases, respectively, but not in the adjacent benign thyroid tissue. Recurrence was inversely correlated with CD15 expression (p = 0.034) but not with CD10 expression. In 467 PTC pat...

AbstractThe expression of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) is an established prerequisite for the administration of checkpoint inhibitor therapy and is of prognostic value in several cancer types. Data concerning the potential effect of PD-L1 on the prognosis of thyroid carcinoma are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to provide a systematic review of the published data on this topic. The literature was reviewed to gather and quantify evidence on the prognostic role of PD-L1 in follicular epithelial derived thyroid carcinomas and determine its association with clinicopathological parameters. A meta-analysis was performe...

CONCLUSION: In this largest MTC cohort with comprehensive analysis of modulatory role of 13 most frequently studied SNPs with MTC clinical outcome, we observed a statistically significant association of few SNPs with nodal metastasis. However as these SNPs did not show association with any other clinico-pathological parameters like tumor volume or Calcitonin, they may not be true modifier of MTC. Additional large cohort studies with clinico-pathological details and long-term follow-up are needed to identify genetic modifiers of MTC behavior. PMID: 32458635 [PubMed - in process]
