N-Butanol Extract of Gastrodia elata Suppresses Inflammatory Responses in Lipopolysaccharide-Stimulated Macrophages and Complete Freund's Adjuvant- (CFA-) Induced Arthritis Rats via Inhibition of MAPK Signaling Pathway.

N-Butanol Extract of Gastrodia elata Suppresses Inflammatory Responses in Lipopolysaccharide-Stimulated Macrophages and Complete Freund's Adjuvant- (CFA-) Induced Arthritis Rats via Inhibition of MAPK Signaling Pathway. Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2020;2020:1658618 Authors: He P, Hu Y, Huang C, Wang X, Zhang H, Zhang X, Dai H, Wang R, Gao Y Abstract Gastrodia elata is a traditional herbal medicine that has been used for centuries to treat rheumatism. Previous studies have confirmed that ethanol extracts of Gastrodia elata have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, and the n-butanol fraction exerts a higher inhibitory effect. However, the in vivo anti-inflammatory effects of Gastrodia elata have not been evaluated. Thus, we assessed the therapeutic effect of the n-butanol extract of Gastrodia elata (BGE) on complete Freund's adjuvant- (CFA-) induced arthritis rats which were separated into six groups (NOR; MODEL; CFA + dexamethasone (DEX); CFA + 25, 50, 100 mg/kg BGE). The paw swelling, joint radiology, and histology were used to analyze the effect of BGE on delaying the progression of rheumatoid arthritis. Furthermore, serum levels of inflammatory cytokines were analyzed via ELISA. In addition, the effect of BGE on nitric oxide (NO) production, expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2), and inflammatory cytokines were detected in lipopolysaccharide- (LPS-) stimulated...

Purpose of review Summarize recent evidence on the identification and management of rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD). Recent findings Clinical and subclinical interstitial lung disease (ILD) are frequent extra-articular manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Better means of identifying and treating RA-ILD are needed to improve the prognosis, with a median survival of only 3–7 years after diagnosis. Several serum biomarkers are currently being evaluated for their ability to detect RA-ILD. Thorough evaluation and multidisciplinary discussion remains the gold standard for est...

Conclusions: EtOAc and CH2Cl2 are the effective parts of EMS that can improve arthritis. In particular, berberine and atractylodin may be responsible for the antiarthritic activity of EMS. This research provided pharmacological and chemical foundation for the application of EMS in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA). PMID: 32148544 [PubMed]

Authors: Jiang Y, Zhong M, Long F, Yang R Abstract Tripterygium hypoglaucum (Levl.) Hutch (THH) shows well clinical effect on rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but the active ingredients and molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This work was designed to explore these issues by network pharmacology. Compounds from THH were gathered by retrieving literatures. Compound-related and RA-related genes were identified using databases, and the overlapping genes were identified by Venn diagram. The active ingredients and genes of THH against RA were confirmed by dissecting interactions between overlapping genes and compounds using ...

In this study, we tested the role of damp and heat environments in exacerbating RA inflammation and the anti-inflammatory effect of BHGZ, based on succinate/SUCNR1/IL-1β pathway in the adjuvant arthritis (AA) model with damp and heat environment (AA + DHE). Results showed that paw swelling and synovial pathology were significantly increased in AA rats, and these results were aggravated by stimulation in damp and heat environment. BHGZ improved AA + DHE rats' paw swelling, synovial hyperplasia, and inflammatory cell infiltration and reduced IL-1β. In addition, AA rats significantly incr...

CONCLUSION: mindfulness interventions can significantly improve pain intensity, depression, and symptoms in patients with rheumatoid arthritis compared with conventional therapy. But the result still needs to be confirmed by more high-quality, large-sample randomized controlled trials. PMID: 31957665 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
