Meeting the Hospice and Palliative Care Registered Nurse Workforce Challenge: Hospice Nurse Residencies as a Case Study (TH362)

Hospice organizations in the United States continue to see dramatic growth in patients served annually, nearly doubling growth between 2004 and 2014. Palliative care services have also significantly increased across the country with now close to 30% of counties and 70% of hospitals across the United States offering palliative care. In order to respond to this growth and the rapidly aging population, hospice and palliative care organizations must maintain a vibrant hospice and palliative registered nurse workforce.
