Highmark drops anesthesia ban

Health insurer Highmark Inc. has backed away from restricting the use of certain drugs used in colorectal cancer screening, opting instead to follow Medicare's lead on the issue. At issue is the use of propofol as a sedative in otherwise health patients undergoing colonoscopies and other medical procedures. Propofol, best known for the overdose death of Michael Jackson, requires that an anesthesiologist monitor administration of the drug, which is not needed when other sedatives are used beforeā€¦
