Oral Health Status of Patients with Repaired Cleft Lip and Palate in Central Vietnam

Nguyen, Van Thai / Nguyen, Hong Loi / Nguyen, Toai / Jagom ägi, TriinPage 457 - 463Purpose: To determine the oral hygiene habits, levels of dental caries, and periodontal condition of patients with repaired cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P) in Central Vietnam.Materials and Methods: A total of 78 patients (1-54 years old; median: 6 years) with CL/P were examined for dental caries, gingivitis and periodontitis using the decayed, missing, and filled teeth (dmft/DMFT) index, gingival bleeding on probing and periodontal pocket depth. Data about dental visits, brushing habits and socioeconomic status were collected. Results: A majority of patients brushed their teeth at least once a day with fluoride dentifrice but did not floss. The caries prevalence was 87.2%. The dmft of patients aged ≤ 5 years and 6-12 years were 7.4 and 9.0. The DMFT of patients aged 6-12 years, and ≥ 13 years were 1.6, and 6.7; the difference was statistically significant (p

Authors: Zhao N, Xiang Q, Liu Z, Zhao X, Cui Y Abstract INTRODUCTION: There remains an unmet need for better anticoagulants. The phase I clinical trial is of great significance in the development of anticoagulants, and the design is special. This system review aims to provide insights for the design of future phase I clinical trials of anticoagulants. AREAS COVERED: We searched the database PubMed and ClinicalTrail.gov website, to collate the phase I clinical trial of anticoagulants in healthy people. The study protocol, inclusion exclusion criteria, safety and pharmacodynamic indexes were reviewed. EXPERT ...

Pb(OF)Cu3(SeO3)2(NO3): a selenite fluoride nitrate with a breathing kagomé lattice. Chem Commun (Camb). 2020 Oct 14;56(80):11965-11968 Authors: Zhang M, Zhao Z, Zhang W, Li J, Huang X, He Z Abstract The Cu2+-based breathing kagomé material Pb(OF)Cu3(SeO3)2(NO3) with both corner-sharing and edge-sharing has been synthesized. Magnetic measurements suggest ferromagnetic interactions inside the layers and antiferromagnetic interactions between the neighboring layers, leading to an antiferromagnetic ground state with a field-induced spin-flip transition at low temperature. Authors: Fentie K, Wakayo T, Gizaw G Abstract Background: Anemia defined as a low blood hemoglobin concentration is public health importance. The adolescence age group is the most neglected in public health and nutrition research as priorities are usually given to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and their children less than 2 years. Current Ethiopian Food and Nutrition policy included adolescent girls in the most at-risk group for nutritional demands; however, only a few published studies have assessed a deficiency of anemia and associated factors to tackle the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition. Authors: Gao Y, Xin L, Zhang YT, Guo XR, Meng QQ, Li ZS, Liao Z Abstract Background/Aims: Single-balloon enteroscopy (SBE) has been widely used in diagnosing small bowel disease. We conducted this study to systematically appraise its technical and clinical performance. Methods: Studies on SBE published by September 2018 were systematically searched. Technical and clinical performance data were collected and analyzed with descriptive or meta-analysis methods. Results: In total, 54 articles incorporating 4,592 patients (6,036 procedures) were included. Regarding technical parameters, the pooled insertion dept...

Study Design. Retrospective review of a database cohort. Objective. To compare short-term outcome measures and complications between single-level posterolateral fusion (PLF), single-level posterior interbody fusion (PLIF/TLIF), and combined single-level PLF+PLIF/TLIF. Summary of Background Data. Both PLF and interbody fusion are well-established procedures for degenerative spinal disease. However, there is lack of consensus as to the ideal surgical approach for specific applications. Additionally, the difference in risk of complications with traditional PLF, interbody fusion with posterior approach, and circumferen...

Authors: Valentín-Bravo FJ, Asensio-Sánchez VM, Guerra-González A, Vallelado-Álvarez AI Abstract "Ankyloblepharon filiforme adnatum" is a congenital anomaly characterized by partial or complete adhesion of upper and lower eyelids. The lid margins remain fused until the end of the fifth month of gestational age. Complete separation usually is completed about the seventh fetal month. Ankyloblepharon may be an isolated manifestation or may be associated with abnormalities in other organs and / or systems. The case is presented on a newborn male with family history of hypohydrotic ...

AbstractAbstractCancer patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) have significantly greater mortality compared with non-cancer patients. This risk is partly directly attributable to the malignancy; however these patients are frequently undertreated with respect to guideline recommended treatments for ACS due to higher bleeding risks from anemia and thrombocytopenia. Due to exclusion from large clinical trials, there is a paucity of data regarding how to best treat these complex and high-risk patients.Purpose of ReviewTo review the literature and identify risk factors among cancer patients associated with poor outcomes, p...

AbstractPurpose of reviewLow molecular weight heparin (LMWH) has been the standard of care for patients with cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) for over 10  years; however, its adoption has been limited. The appearance of direct acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs) revolutionized the treatment of non-cancer venous thromboembolism (VTE) through their attractive fixed dose regimens; however, a lack of dedicated trial experience had relegated their positio n to off-label use in patients with cancer. The goal of this review is to review the evidence that has been generated over the last 3 years for factor Xa inhibitors...
