In this study we present bioinformatical and functional characterization of two novel splicing NF1 variants, detected in NF1 patients. Patient 1, carring NF1:c.122A>T, which introduces a new exonic 5' donor splice site, was diagnosed with hormone positive, Her-2 negative breast cancer at the age of 47. She had an atypical presentation of NF1, with few café-au-lait spots and no Lisch nodules. ShePatient developed a hemothorax due to subclavian artery rupture, which has previously been described as an extremely rare complication of NF1. Patient 2, carring NF1:c.7395-17T>G that creates a new intronic 3' acceptor ...

We are presenting the case of a 37-year-old woman with a history of neurofibromatosis type 1, brain tumor, and breast cancer who was found to have a 3-cm celiac artery aneurysm during workup for a mastectomy.

Raymond H. Kim Neurofibromatosis Type I (NF1) is caused by variants in neurofibromin (NF1). NF1 predisposes to a variety of benign and malignant tumor types, including breast cancer. Women with NF1 <50 years of age possess an up to five-fold increased risk of developing breast cancer compared with the general population. Impaired emotional functioning is reported as a comorbidity that may influence the participation of NF1 patients in regular clinical surveillance despite their increased risk of breast and other cancers. Despite emphasis on breast cancer surveillance in women with NF1, the uptake and feasibil...

Conclusions: Focal increased FDG metabolic activity in the parotid gland require further investigation especially in the head and neck malignancy or if the results may change treatment plan as many will have unexpected metastasis.

Authors: Yamagishi Y, Einama T, Yamasaki T, Koiwai T, Hiratsuka M, Fukumura M, Kono T, Ueno H, Yamamoto J, Tsuda H Abstract The present study reports a case of metachronous bilateral breast cancer associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). A 67-year-old female, who had undergone a radical mastectomy of the left breast 34 years ago due to breast cancer, presented with a tumor of the right breast. The clinical stage of the original breast cancer was T2N0M0 stage IIA and adjuvant chemotherapy had not been not administered. With regard to the right-sided breast tumor, on physical examination, multiple neurofibroma...

Neurofibromatosis type 1 is a rare medical condition that raises the probability of having distinct types of malignant and benign neoplasms. Nevertheless, the association with breast cancer is rare, and metachronic neoplasia with a distinct histologic subtype is an association that has never been reported before. Here we describe a case of a primary breast tumor, with posterior development of basal cell carcinoma of the skin, and a low-grade peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma.Case Rep Oncol 2019;12:228 –234

AbstractThe past decade has witnessed a growing role and increasing use of whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WB-MRI). Driving these successes are developments in both hardware and software that have reduced overall examination times and significantly improved MR imaging quality. In addition, radiologists and clinicians have continued to find promising new applications of this innovative imaging technique that brings together morphologic and functional characterization of tissues. In oncology, the role of WB-MRI has expanded to the point of being recommended in international guidelines for the assessment of several can...
