Transverse colon stenosis following laparoscopic total gastrectomy for gastric remnant carcinoma

Egemen Cicek, Fatih Sumer, Ersin Gundogan, Cihan Gokler, Cuneyt KayaalpJournal of Minimal Access Surgery 2019 15(4):348-350Laparoscopic surgery for remnant gastric cancer has been reported in a limited number of cases, and data on post-operative complications are lacking. A 58-year-old male was admitted with remnant gastric cancer. He had undergone open subtotal gastrectomy 9 years ago for gastric cancer. Laparoscopic total gastrectomy was performed, and he was discharged on the 10th day uneventfully. The patient had complained of nausea and vomiting in the 2nd post-operative month. He clinically and radiologically diagnosed as ileus and required open emergency surgery. There was a transverse colon stenosis near the splenic flexure. Hartmann's procedure was done, and he was discharged on day 17. We have limited knowledge about colonic complications after laparoscopic gastric surgery. The development of stenosis in the transverse colon is one of these complications that should be kept in mind. As far as we know, such a complication has never been reported before.

AbstractThe reaction of cyclohexan-1,3-dione with either of malononitrile or ethyl cyanoacetate gave the 4-amino-6,7-dihydro-5H-chromen-5-one derivatives3a and3b, respectively. The reaction of the latter compounds with cyanoacetylhydrazine gave the hydrazide –hydrazone derivatives5a and5b, respectively. Compounds5a,b were used as the key starting materials for the synthesis of thiophen, coumarin, and pyridine derivatives. The newly synthesized compounds were evaluated against three human cancer cell lines, including HCT116 (colon carcinoma cell), MGC803 (gastric carcinoma cell), and Huh7 (hepatoma carcinoma cell). Th...

However, how LINC01234 participates in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) progression remains unknown. In our research, we showed that LINC01234 was dramatically upregulated in OSCC tissues. And interestingly, high LINC01234 expression predicted a low overall survival rate in OSCC patients. Knockdown of OSCC inhibited the proliferation of cancer cells and led to more cells restricted in G0 ph...

Additionally, downregulation o...

In this study, 60 mice were randomly divided into four groups: Control group, DD group, HCC group, HCC-DD group. Mice received a chronic dose of reserpine to establish depression model, followed by Diethylnitrosamine and Carbon tetrachloride administration to establish HCC models. Behavioral depression was assessed by sucrose preference test (SPT) and the expression of Serotonin 1A (5-HT1A) receptor in the hippocampal. The expression of Oatp2a1 and Oatp2b1 in the digestive system tissues was detected by PCR and western blotting. Results: Reserpine-administrated mice had a reducing sucrose preference at Day 14 compared with blank mice (P

For more than two decades, the IRT prodrug has largely contributed to the treatment of solid tumors worldwide. Nowadays, this camptothecin derivative targeting topoisomerase 1 remains largely used in combination regimen, like FOLFIRI and FOLFIRINOX, to treat metastatic or advanced solid tumors, such as colon, gastric and pancreatic cancers and others. This review highlights recent discoveries in...

Abstract Hepatocyte nuclear factor 4-alpha (HNF4α) is a highly conserved member of nuclear receptor superfamily of ligand-dependent transcription factors that is expressed in liver and gastrointestinal organs (pancreas, stomach, and intestine). In liver, HNF4α is best known for its role as a master regulator of liver-specific gene expression and essential for adult and fetal liver function. Dysregulation of HNF4α expression has been associated with many human diseases such as ulcerative colitis, colon cancer, maturity-onset diabetes of the young, liver cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. How...

UDCA is also a long-established drug, largely used for the dissolution of cholesterol gallstones, the treatment of primary biliary cholangitis and other hepatobiliary disorders. The history of UDCA is briefly retraced here as well as its multifac...
